Omaha 8
Omaha 8 or Better (otherwise - Omaha Hi/lo) has still been staying one of the most popular games in the online world. Omaha 8 or Better is divided on:
- Limit Omaha 8 or Better (with definite specific limit of bets in every game or on each betting round)
- Pot Limit Omaha 8 or Better (when players can bet what is in the pot)
The game
In this kind of gambling games it's important to indicate the theoretical dealer of each hand. For this goal players use a dealer-button. Everybody knows that there are some standard poker rules, and according to one of them the button moves clockwise to the next active player but only after each hand is completed. For that hand this active player will be called "the dealer". Before the beginning of the game a fresh deck of cards for the hand must be generated. On TopsPoker a single deck of cards to play a hand of poker is used. A deck refers to 52 cards, but you won't find there jokers.
To shuffle the decks for the game poker rooms the Random Number Generation machine is used.
How does it work?
The deck's cards positions are made by generating the random numbers. For each game a new deck is generated. This machine code has been thoroughly audited by BMM and uses widely nowadays.
The First round
The game starts of with the first person sitting on the table becoming the dealer and the next player posting the small blind. A game on an active table starts with the button moving clockwise to the next player. The next button player must place the small blind. The small blind is accurately a half the lower stake. This is a guideline the blinds and not a strict rule. For example - at $5/$10 Omaha High it should be $2,5 for small blind. However, the blind for the first could be set differently at the time of setting up the table.
The player to the left of the small blind must post the big blind which is the lower stake limit. If it's a new player joins the game, he must post the big blind; it depends on turns he joins.
The blinds in Omaha High can be posted live and options of checking, calling or folding when the betting returns to their position will be available.
After the blinds the down cards/hole cards are dealt to each active player. In Omaha High these cards are 4 after the betting. The player to the left of "big blind started" starts the betting for this round. The lower limit of stakes at this game defines of the size of the bets posted by players one on another.
For example, in $10/$20 Omaha High value of each bet is $10 for the first round. When the bets are limited to $10, it refers to: a bet of the value of $10, so when a user places "BET" then it is $10, "RAISE" would be $20, because it includes one additional bet and a call on the previous bet placed by a player.
Bet has the next options - Bet, Call and Raise. Player also can use the option Fold. To call is to make bet as the previous player has made. Raise is the action that means to raise the bet. Every player in the game must place an equal amount of the bet as the previous players. The betting will continue till the time the players will have placed an equal amounts in the pot. There is a limit on amount and on quantity of bets in the game. The limit of number of bets is explained in "Standard rules" and as for the number of bets in a particular round it has been mentioned below.
After the first round of betting is over the Flop is dealt. The community cards common to all opponent players in the game.
The Second round
The first active player left of the button acts first after the flop and in every next betting round. The value of bets is also limited in the second betting round. It raises to the lower limit. $10 is the bet of the second round. When the bets are limited to $10, it refers to: a single $10 bet, so when a user places "Bet" then it is $10, "Raise" would be $20, because it includes one additional bet and a call on the previous bet placed by a player. You can play any of the following options - Bet, Call and Raise. By these options you are able to place bets. Each player can use these options. But each player must remember that if he gets the Bet option, the other players will get only the Call and Raise options only.
After this the fourth community card is dealt out. It is called the Turn.
The Third round
The player left to the button begins the third betting round. Bets and raises are limited to the upper limit of the stake structure. When the bets are limited to $20, it refers to: a single $20 bet, so when a user places "Bet" then it is $20, "Raise" would be $40, because it includes one additional bet and a call on the previous bet placed by a player. Bet has the next options - Bet, Call and Raise. These options can be combined. The player can use different varieties of these option's combinations. But he only must remember that they depend on the action taken by the previous player. The first player, I mean the player left to the button, places the bet. He would get the Bet option.
After this the fifth community card is dealt out - it is called the River.
The Fourth round
The fourth (it's called the final) betting round begins with the player who is left to the button. Bets and raises are limited to the upper limit of the strake structure.
Some standard rules
Each betting round per playing allows for three raises. We use the term cap to describe the final raise in a round since betting is then capped and no one can make another raise. Players will have only the calling and folding options. You can fold at any stage of the game. To show the player cards being moved to the dealer the action of folding is used. The player from then on won't be considered as part of the game.
A player could also get the option of "Check". According to this option the player can pass his/her turn without placing a bet. The player can't always use this option. The player HAS TO equal the amount of bet placed by any other players for each round in the hand.
Poker is typically played "table stakes". That means that only the chips in play at the beginning of each hand may be used throughout the hand. The player can't get additional funds from the cashier while he is in the midst of a game. The table stakes rule is also known as the "All-In" rule, which states that a player can't be forced to forfeit a hand because the player does not have enough chips to call a bet.
Exceptions to the value of betting in each round
All-In declares the player who doesn't have enough chips to call a bet. The player is eligible for the portion of the pot to the point of his final wager. All further action involving other players takes place in a "side pot", which is unavailable to the player who has already gone All-In. When a player goes All-in, the pot currently at the center of the table, which has contributions from him/her as well, is treated as the main pot, over which the All-in player has rights. After it, all the new bets are placed in a side pot, over which only the contributing players have rights. The All-in player doesn't have any rights over the side pot. The side pot is then given to the next winning combination.
The players are expected to play within a set time frame. TopsPoker provides players with approximately 30 seconds to play with. Initially the player has 10 seconds, after which there is a timer countdown. It is displayed on the table for 20 seconds. Then if user has contributed some money to the pot, he goes all-in. The system is very attentive in detecting if the player has got disconnected or not. The player has an additional 20 seconds to play his turn, if he got disconnected. But if the player is not able to connect back to the table then he goes All-in. All-in basically means that the player is in the game, but this player wouldn't be an active player. Whatever pot is collected till this time is referred, and the all-in player has rights to this pot only. After this the money that is bet on the table is added to a side pot, over which the all-in player does not have any rights.
After the final betting round, time for Showdown comes. This refers to the action of deciding who the winner of the pot is and display of the cards from all players. Players use five cards of the total of hole and community cards for deciding on the winning hands.
For deciding the winning combination players use a set rank of cards.
There is no qualifying on the high. It means that the best high hand automatically wins half the pot and could win the pot. To win the "Low" side of the pot, however, you must qualify.
To qualify for Low:
To qualify for the "Low" half of the pot players take a five-card hand with different numerical values from Ace through eight. The best "Low" hand is A, 2, 3, 4, 5. The winning "Low" hand goes to the player with the lowest high card. The player with the second lowest card wins the low side in the pot if two or more players have the same high card.
There is a set rank of cards, which is used for deciding the winning combination.
Ties
Two or more players "tie" for one side of the pot. They will split that half into equally divided portions. An odd chip(s) will go to the person(s) closest to the left of the button.
Some things to remember
- Straights and Flushes don't count against you when qualifying for "Low"
- You are permitted to use different cards in your hand for the "High" side And different cards for the "Low" side or the same cards for both the "High" and "Low" sides.
Key to remember
You Must play two of four "down" cards with three of the "up" cards to determine your hand(s) in Omaha 8 or Better.
We don't take the suit order of the cards into account while deciding on the winning cards. Standard rules of playing poker are important to TopsPoker. The rule of poker pot distribution will be split evenly between the two or more winning players. This applies to both play money and poker for real money.
For all the four rounds of betting, the house based on set rules collects a commission. It is called the Rake. The rules set at TopsPoker are:

The game play remains same for both Limit and Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better game with a few exceptions: In Limit Omaha 8 or Better a maximum of four bets is allowed per player during any betting round. This includes a (1) bet, (2) raise, (3) re-raise, and (4) cap. In Pot-Limit there is no limit to the number of raises that a player can make. If all the other players in the hand only call or fold, the player would not get an option to raise (he must know it). That is why the last raise was done by him/her.
The Betting rules for Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better
- Minimum eligible raise: The raise amount must be at least as much as the previous bet or raise in the same round.
- Maximum eligible raise: The size of the pot = the total of the active Pot +all bets on the table + the amount the active player
