A Different Kind of Poker Run
29th of September 2005
This Saturday Fort Lauderdale residents will be treated to an unusual sight; motorcyclists, auto drivers, and even powerboat pilots dashing hither, thither and yon to collect sealed envelopes containing playing cards in the hopes of creating the best possible winning poker hand.
In a different approach to the typical Poker Run, which is normally attributed to bikers making a loop on a standard route to collect cards, the Fort Lauderdale Land & Sea Poker Run Challenge gives participants the option of playing on land with cars or motorcycles or on the water in boats.
Once the entry fees of $100 per person or team is collected, runners have the option of hitting as few or as many of the stops as they wish, collecting cards in the hopes of getting a top hand and a part of the prize pool of over $10,000. The American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund will benefit from the charity run.
