Allen Cunningham Closes The Gap
24th of November 2005
Allen Cunningham made a fourth place finish to earn enough money to push his 2005 poker winnings passed $1.6 million. Cunningham collected $483,000 at last week’s Foxwoods World Poker Finals, which makes 12 in the money finishes for the young poker pro. Poker pros live in fear of finishing “on the bubble” which means one spot short of earning a prize; it looks like Cunningham has no worries in that area.
Cunningham has had many victories this year so far, including Ultimate Poker Challenge’s $3,000 Buy-In No-Limit Hold ‘em tournament, and the World Series of Poker’s $1,500 Buy-In No-Limit Hold ‘em event. The WSOP event is where he earned more than $725,000 and his third WSOP bracelet, which also made him the first player to earn a million dollars before the start of the main event at the World Series of Poker.
“Allen’s unassuming style has always created a big gap between his skill and other peoples’ recognition of that skill,” said fellow poker pro Howard Lederer. “2005 will be the year that gap disappears.”
