Camp Hellmuth a Hit with Campers
27th of September 2005
Attending a poker camp lead by someone who’s nickname “Poker Brat” is well earned might not be a draw to many, but more than 150 campers turned up for the weekend-long seminar in order to learn from Phil Hellmuth and other poker pros. Kicking off Thursday night, there were three seminars on Friday and Saturday morning, followed by endless afternoons of no-limit Texas Hold’em poker tournaments, where campers competed with pros for cash prizes, although the pros were not allowed to win the cash.
Entry to the camp set back campers $3,000, although many expressed it was well worth the investment, expecting to earn back their entry fee and more with the tricks and lessons learned at the Las Vegas camp. Some participants even flew in from England to take part.
And how did the poker brat behave? Like a perfect host, reportedly going out of his way to sign autographs and speak with campers, all of whom hoped to pick up some of the skill that made Hellmuth a nine-time World Series of Poker champion.
