Crackdown On Video Poker Land Mayor In Hot Water
09th of November 2005
All across the United States authorities are cracking down on the slippery problem of video poker machines. In many places the machines themselves are not illegal, but paying out cash prizes on the is. In Knoxville, TN, a local TV news station, WAVTE, used undercover surveillance to show a number of illegal video poker parlors in operation; including one owned by LaFollette Mayor Clifford Jennings.
When Campbell County authorizes shut down the four businesses, Jennings was included, and now the Mayor may face felony charges. His defense attorney may have to get creative as the very tape that was shown to the attorney general and TBI agents also shows the Mayor on premises at his business, watching the video poker machines in action.
This is the second time four businesses were raided by TBI agents, the first being in April when a dozen machines were taken. This raid yielded 14 machines and thousands in cash.
