Florida Poker Rooms Confused

02nd of December 2005

The Director of the Florida State Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering announced this Tuesday that certain gambling groups are under investigation for suspected rules violation regarding recent poker legislation. The director, Mr. David Roberts, did not specify which groups were being investigated, but he expressed concern over jai alai frontons and racetracks are not adhering to poker room regulations.

Steve Andris is the owner of the Jefferson County Kennel Club and speaks for many when he says that he is confused regarding the situation due to the complication of the rules.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation acted to repeal the initial ruling regulating how tournament-style poker games, like super popular Texas Hold 'Em, could be run which is when the investigation began. An appeals court supported a judge’s decision that the law did not give regulators the needed powers to make rules for tournaments, which is what prompted the repeal of all the rules.
