Last Call Poker Uses Deceased’s Funds
28th of September 2005
With a background story that would fit neatly inside a New York Time’s bestseller or Hollywood hopeful, new poker site Last Call Poker launched recently with funds willed for the purpose by the site’s designer, Lionel Brown. With the nickname “Lucky”, Brown’s story is that he parleyed the winnings from a lucky poker hand at the end of the second world war into a multi million dollar fortune, and he wants to use part of that fortune to support the web site he designed before passing away.
Last Call Poker offers Tombstone Hold’em, played the same way as the ever popular Texas Hold’em, but using gravestone markers instead of traditional card suits. With a list of dates and times, Brown encourages from beyond the grave for players to hold Tombstone tournaments in his honor as a sort of wake, at cemeteries in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, New York and Atlanta. The site has caught the attention of the Alternate Reality Gaming network, which suspects this site might be an elaborate game designed to involve players in a quasi-real fantasy experience.
