North Dakota Poker Petition Needed

28th of November 2005

When North Dakota State Representative Jim Kasper won over the state’s House to his side of the poker issue earlier this year it looked good for the future of poker in the state. When he was opposed in the state Senate by an overwhelming majority, however, any changes to North Dakota law were nipped in the bud. The defeat hasn’t stopped Kasper, however, who is adamant about getting legislation passed to legalize online poker in the state, as well as setting up some form of quality control.

When speaking with the press Kasper has not admitted to any intentions to introduce more legislation to continue the fight, but he has been more forthcoming with industry officials. In order to secure the kind of funds he would need to make it happen, he has approached the gambling industry in search of funding. A petition is required in order to pass any laws legalizing online gaming, as the state’s constitution would also have to change. Just to get the amendment on the ballet would require 25,688 North Dakota voters to sign a related petition.
