Poker Event Offers Fun Among The Dead
17th of October 2005
Recently a new poker site was launched with an interesting back-story and an unusual future. Last Call Poker is the name of the site, where supposedly a wealthy gambler left instructions and money in his will to create an online poker site. Part of the site directs interested players to graveyard events where a game called Tombstone Hold’em is played.
Players race around graveyards to find tombstones of the highest rank according to the game’s instructions to use as playing cards. Teams work together to touch two grave markers while in contact with each other, often resulting in Twister-like positions with both players stretched to the max in order to reach both tombstones.
Headstones with more than one name are equal to face cards, the last digit in the year of a person’s death is a number value, and the shape of the top part of the headstone denotes the suit of the cards. In this way players can search through the cemetery for the cards they want, and then figure out how to touch them at the same time. The first event was held in San Francisco and more are planned for other grave sites across the country.
