Poker In Russian Catching On
02nd of November 2005
There are now about 100 people in the Moscow and St. Petersuburg areas of Russian who can make the claim of being professional poker players, otherwise known as “rounders” in poker-lingo. This is according to a monthly gaming magazine, Casino Games, run by Dmitry Lesnoi, the publisher and a man who keeps his eye on the Moscow poker scene.
While not at the level of big time American events like the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour, the 2005 Russian Poker Championships just recently ended, showing a level of organization and play that bodes well for the sport’s continued growth in Russia. One of the most respected and well known of the Russian rounders, Kirill Gerasimov, busted out early in the $2,000 buy-in Texas No Limit Hold'em tournament.
