Pokerface 2005 Begins In Tel Aviv Sept. 19
15th of September 2005
The second annual poker tournament to be held in Israel next week is helping to change to face of poker in that country. Pokerface 2005 is being organized by Daniel Anisman, a 36-year-old owner of a high tech company who is determined to show that poker does not have to live up to the stereotypes many people have when they think of the game.
"People need to understand that there is competitive poker just like there is competitive bridge or chess," said Daniel Anisman in a quote told to The Jerusalem Post.
While many in Israel hold a common impression of poker belonging to seedy casinos and unseemly back rooms, Israeli sports channels have helped to change that impression, following American sports channels examples by broadcasting poker tournaments.
The winner of Pokerface 2005, which will be held September 19-20, will be awarded a seat in the Master Classics of Poker tournament, to be held in Amsterdam on November 4th.
