World Championship of Online Poker prize $300K
14th of September 2005
With a prize purse that rivals many in-person, traditional poker tournaments, the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) from PokerStars.com has begun. The first emerging champion is Snow Leopard, a player from Downey, CA, who was the “last man standing” out of 3062 competitors.
“I am thrilled with the response to this year's WCOOP,” said PokerStars.com Director of Communications Nolan Dalla, “Poker continues to boom and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. This is especially true for online poker. WCOOP gives all players a unique opportunity to compete for a world championship title from any computer in the world. With so many players and so many different tournaments -- this is the Olympic Games of poker.”
Snow Leopard, along with the rest of the field, paid $500 to buy in to this No-Limit Texas Hold’em tournament, which held a top prize of over three hundred thousand dollars.
